the scoop on

how to use oils

There are three essential ways to experience the benefits of essential oils: aromatically (smelling the oils), topically (applying the oils directly to your skin) and internally (ingesting the oils).

Aromatically: diffusing is the easiest way to enjoy the aromatic benefits of essential oils, but certainly not the only way. Many people will put a drop of oil in their hands, rub them together and then cup their hands over their mouth/nose and inhale. This is a potent and quick method for aromatic usage. Other aromatic methods include making a spritzer bottle and spraying around a room or putting drops of oil on a cotton ball and placing around a room.

Topically: topically is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the benefits of essential oils. It works quickly and is especially easy on-the-go. Most of the time, I use pre-diluted roller bottles for topical use. Always dilute essential oils for children/babies and for those with sensitive skin. My favorite dilution solution is Fractionated Coconut Oil.

Internally: I only advocate for the internal use of doTERRA essential oils because of their quality and purity standards. Not all oils are created equally and I cannot advocate other brands of oils for internal use, or for oils not purchased directly from doTERRA (rather than buying from a third-party website). Taking it a step further, not all doTERRA essential oils are intended for internal use. The best way to know if you can take an oil internally is if there is a “Supplements Facts” label on the bottle. Easy ways to experience the benefits of oils internally are to add 1-2 drops to your water (a favorite of mine with citrus oils), substitute herbal oils instead of spices in your favorite recipes (a little goes a long way), and with a veggie capsule.
