Oral Health

It is April! I'm all about Spring Cleaning this time of year, but that doesn't mean I only want to clean my home. It is also a great time to discuss cleaning your body! I want to chat about oral health and cleaning up some of the household products you use daily.

DoTERRA recognizes DIY is not for everyone! It seems like there is literally an awesome DIY out there for every item you use, but maybe you don't have the time, energy, or desires to do that? No worries! DoTERRA is here to help!

Oral Health is often treated completely separate from the body as a whole, however it greatly impacts the overall health of your body.  The mouth is colonized by hundreds of different bacterial species that inhabit dental plaque.  These species adhere in layers to oral surfaces.  They are not easily eliminated by your natural immune responses and must be removed (aka brushing your teeth). Even a clean mouth contains several hundred billion bacteria, and the number increases when poor oral care exists.  All of this is to say oral health is very important, and that might even be an understatement.

Essential oils are an effective way to support oral health, in part because they are antibacterial and anti fungal in nature.  Oil pulling is also particularly beneficial for restoring and maintaining good oral health.  If you have never heard of oil pulling, look into it and use your essential oils in your oil pulling process.

You absolutely can apply essential oils directly to area of concern in you mouth such as gums, teeth, tongue, sores, etc. or on to your toothbrush (only use essential oils that have supplement facts printed on the label of the bottle when using them internally).  To relieve pain try applying to your cheek or jaw area with a carrier oil (i.e. coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil, etc).  Apply frequently as needed for acute situations.
