Living simply
Hi! My name is Teresa Stanzyk. I live in Adel, IA with my husband, Matt, and two kids Evelynn (5) and Cody (2). We live on a little acreage outside of our small town and love everything about country living. We love to spend our time outside, enjoy camping, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
I have been lucky to live in two very different places as a child. I was born in Iowa and moved to Spokane, Washington when I was 6. We lived there until I was 16 and then moved back to Iowa. After high school I attended school at the University of Iowa and then transferred to AIB College of Business. While finishing up my business degree I realized my heart was not in it. Deep down I had always wanted to be a teacher so I took a chance and enrolled at Grandview University. I earned my elementary education degree in December 2012. I have been teaching first grade in Adel since 2013 and love what I do!
fun facts about teresa
What were you seeking essential oils for when you first started?
I was incredibly skeptical when I first heard about essential oils and honestly wanted nothing to do with them. After talking to a friend about all the practical, daily uses she used them for I was intrigued to learn more. My daughter had terrible eczema when she was a toddler-so bad she had a steroid to help it clear up. It helped in the moment, but was not a long-term solution. I decided to take a chance and go to a class and was instantly amazed with all these oils could do. I bought a kit that night and have totally changed how we approach life in all areas-especially health and cleaning. What started out as a journey to find more natural solutions for my daughter quickly and easily turned into looking for products/solutions to remove toxins from our home, improve my own health and approach life in a proactive approach rather than reactive approach.
How does your family feel about essential oils?
We love them! My kids LOVE to use oils on themselves and I don’t have to worry about them using an oil when they need them. My kids are 5 and 2 and when they have a tummy ache, itchy skin or anything else that may arise with kids, I have an oil to support them. I know they are safe to use and can support all of us with whatever we may need them for.
What is your favorite season?
Gosh, this is a tough one! I love them all for different reasons. Well, maybe not winter! But, if I have to choose one I choose summer. I LOVE being home with my kids in the summer. We love to be outside and keep busy with swimming, playing, working in the garden and going camping. Summer is definitely a time to relax, be with family, grill and have bonfires and we make sure to do as much of this as we can.
What piece of advice do you have for beginning oil users or maybe someone that doesn't have oils in their life yet?
KGive them a chance. Be open to trying something new even if you are skeptical. We often let what scares us hold us back from learning new things. Essential oils can change your life and your approach to life in so many positive ways.
Top 3 oils/items you use daily and never don't have on hand?
Again, so hard to narrow this down! Lifelong vitality pack (vitamins), onguard and breathe. The energy and overall “good” feeling I have when taking the vitamins is incredible. I have never felt so good in my life as I do now after taking these vitamins daily for 3 years now. Onguard is the protective blend. We roll it on our skin daily to fight germs and boost our immunity. I also diffuse it every day and take it internally when I feel like I am getting sick. Breathe is another life changing oil. We use it topically when we are congested and need respiratory support. Diffusing it for respiratory support has incredible benefits. I diffuse OnGuard and breathe every night in everyone’s rooms.
